Welcome to the last week of school! As your child moves on to the next step in their lives, we can trust assured that they are not alone.

Calendar Notes
On Tuesday, grades 7 & 8 will walk to Cahalan Park at 11:00 for PE Day. Students should bring a sack lunch, water, sunscreen, and athletic clothing. We will walk back to school at 2:35. We are hoping for a fun day!
The yearbook/pizza party will be this Tuesday beginning after school and lasting until 4:30. Students staying in homeroom after the party should head directly there after it is finished. For those students who would still like to purchase a yearbook – 21 yearbooks will be available on a first come, first serve basis at a cost of $27.00 each.
The last day of school is Thursday. We will dismiss at noon with graduation at 7:00pm. Please have your graduate in the 8th grade classroom by 6:43 on Thursday evening so we can have everything ready to go. Thank you

Great job to all the students who participated in the Piano Recital! God truly has blessed us with some amazing musicians.
Thank you to all who made this year’s “Fun Raiser” events a success. We hope that you were able to attend some and enjoy each other’s company.
On Thursday, students will draw names from a hat to determine the order in which they are able to reserve seats for the graduation service. Each family will have up to 12 seats available to reserve in the front of church for family members. Please inform your child as to how many seats they should reserve before they come to school on Thursday. If for some reason you need to reserve more than 12, please talk to me before Thursday. Extra seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

This Thursday is the last Open House event for May.
Today, Grades 7 & 8 will be going to the Santa Cruz Beach/Boardwalk. We will leave at 9:45 and return by 4:00 this afternoon.
Friday, May 29th is the spring piano recital.
A note concerning PE Day went home last week. On Tuesday, June 2nd the 7th and 8th grade will be heading to Cahalan Park for a day of fun. We will be walking over to the park at 11:30. Students should plan on bringing a sack lunch to eat at the park along with water and sunscreen.

Calendar Notes
While we try to keep our school open to prospective parents all year long, Thursdays in May have been set aside as special “Open House” days. If there is someone who is looking for more information on our school, invite them to stop by and meet with Mr. Luehring.
Tuesday, grades 7 & 8 will help run the track meet for grades 1-3 at Cahalan Park. We will eat an early lunch before leaving school at 11:45. We will return around 2:00. Hot lunch service will still be available for students. Students should remember to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing for the weather.
This Friday is a noon dismissal due to Teacher’s Collaboration. Hot lunch will not be served on this day, but homeroom services will be available.

Calendar Notes
The Spring Musical, “Recess,” is this Friday at 7:00pm. Students will attend a dress rehearsal on Thursday morning, at 9:45.
Every Thursday in May will be “Open House” Thursdays. If you know of anyone who would be interested in getting information on our school, invite them to stop by.
Tuesday, May 12th is the “Mini Track Meet” for grades 1-3 at Cahalan Park. Grades 7 & 8 will be helping run the events on this day.

Last week students finished their pointillism projects in art. Last week they began to sketch out their “extreme” flowers.
Students are working on their Career Day essay in English for Mrs. Schneider.

Calendar Notes
This Thursday at 7:00 pm there will be a graduation meeting held in the 8th grade classroom. My goal is to have at least one parent of each household attend. The main focus of the meeting is to get parents together in order to get some ideas flowing for the graduation party.
This Friday, Pastor Bork will be hosting a special presentation on drug and substance abuse prevention at 6:30 pm in the fellowship hall. A meal will be served beforehand. Please sign up in the narthex if you are interested in attending
Friday, May 1st marks the halfway point of the 4th Quarter already. Midterm Reports will be sent home at this time.
The WELS Track Meet in Sacramento is Monday, May 4th. Students picked which events they will participate in last week. There is no school on that day.

The Practice Track Meet was once again a success! After the running and field events ended, the students participated in some cross grade kickball games.
I hope that your child enjoyed the movie last week. Some of the footage from it is just amazing. It was a great reminder as to the wonderful world our Lord has made for us.
Students participating in the relay in Sacramento will practice with their team during recess this week.
Grades 7 & 8 will help work the Mini-Meet on May 12th.
This year some students are acting in “mini skits” that portray Christ’s work after his resurrection in the Ascension service. Students will be given some time to work on their parts during school.

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a blessed Easter.

Calendar Notes
The Practice Track Meet is this Wednesday, at Cahalan Park. We will leave campus at 10:45 and return by 2:55. There will be no set time to eat lunch. Students should eat during their free time between events.
All students will be seeing Disney’s “Earth” this Thursday.
Career Day is Friday, April 24th. If you have not done so already, please return the form stating where your child is spending the day.
Pastor Bork will be hosting a special presentation on drugs and substance abuse on Friday, May 1st at 6:30 pm in the fellowship hall. A meal will also be served.
Friday, May 1st is halfway through the 4th Quarter already. Midterm Reports will be sent home at this time.
The WELS Track Meet in Sacramento is Monday, May 4th. Hotel rooms have been blocked off if you are interested in staying the night on Sunday.

The following is note from Pastor Bork concerning a presentation on keeping your children safe from drug and alcohol abuse.

ATTENTION: PARENTS OF 6TH-12TH GRADERS!

We have a special presentation for you scheduled for Friday evening, May 1. It is about learning how to keep your kids safe from drugs and other substance abuse. Now maybe you’re thinking “Not my kid; he/she would never do drugs.” The truth is, all of our kids are living in a society where drugs and other substances of abuse are readily available (even some right in your own home!) and often tried. It’s possible for even one trial to be deadly. You may think your home and school are safe havens, but the devil prowls around there too. From my many years of ministry with young people I can tell you no one is exempt from the temptation of the use and abuse of substances. One of our best weapons is knowledge and one of the best battle tactics in this war is active prevention. Because of these temptations to our youth and their damaging results, several years ago I became a certified drug and alcohol educator in order to help kids and their parents know the dangers and stay away; I am that concerned about this problem.

Now I want to arm you. Please come to this eye-opening and informative presentation on how to keep your kids safe from drugs. It will be Friday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. In fact, I am so serious about this and want you to attend that I am even going to treat you to dinner that night; so come hungry—for food, and knowledge. I know you’re already filled with the first course—love for you kids!

Thank you to the parents who helped make the CLHS trip a success. From the sounds of it, the students had a good time. I hope that the adults that went were able to get some rest yesterday and maybe recover a bit.

The following is an encouragement that specifically addresses staying for worship when the children sing in that service.
Worship services are an important part of our school’s educational program, as was explained prior to enrollment. Worshipping is an outflow or response of faith, which we are nurturing through the school, therefore we strongly urge families to attend worship and stay for the whole service when the children come to sing. An additional problem occurs when people leave during the service as it is disruptive to worshippers and can also give the impression that worship is not important; we don’t want that message to be given to the children or other worshippers. Therefore, we ask that families take to heart the encouragement to stay for all of the worship service.

Don’t forget about Career Day! Please be continuing to look for exciting opportunities for your child on that day.
Last Friday we began to go over options for the various graduation items. Students will continue to look at the different selections for each item. In the past, grades 1-7 sing one song and 8th grade sings a different song in the service. This year grades 1-8 will sing the class song together, instead of two separate songs.
A note went home on Friday with the logistics for the CLHS trip. Please meet at Apostles no later than 7:45 on Wednesday morning. On Saturday, we will return to Apostles about 4 pm. Students will call as we get close to campus.
Students need to bring a sleeping bag.
Students will need to bring money for meals and any souvenirs.
Students may bring a pillow, swim suit, iPod, snacks.
We are looking forward to a very fun and memorable trip.
Students in Economics are getting familiar with the “Stock Market Game.” We began as the only class involved for the first few days, but now there are currently a total of 39 students participating in our area. The game runs until May 22nd.
From now until the end of the year, we will have some different games in our classroom, almost like intramurals. On Friday we began a paper football tournament in our room. There will be 15 minutes set aside on Fridays for games, but the majority of games will be played during lunch after everyone has finished eating. This is purely for fun and I hope that it is just that.

A note concerning Career Day went home last week Monday. Please be working with your child to find someone that they could spend the day with on that Friday. Students will begin to look at different options for Class Verse, Flower, and Colors on Friday of this week. Class Valedictorian and Class Speaker(s) will be chosen after the 3rd Quarter ends. We will also go over the options for Class Song.

Music class is learning about music in the Middle Ages. Next week we leave the Middle Ages and move on to looking at musical life in the Renaissance.
This week in Pre Algebra, students will study “transformations” on the coordinate plane. On Thursday we will look at M.C. Escher’s different uses of these transformations. Students will then create their own tessellations.
Students in Economics will begin participating in the “Stock Market Game” today. In this activity, students are given $100,000 in virtual cash and are able to invest it in stocks, mutual funds, and bonds. Students will compete with other 7th and 8th graders across the country in trying to accrue as much capital as they can over the next two months. The creators of this simulation activity have tried to make it as true to the real life experience as possible. I am hoping that this will be a fun and beneficial activity.

The 4th Quarter begins in just two weeks, the time is certainly flying. That means we should begin to think of some graduation items. Starting next week, students will go over different options for Class Verse, Flower, and Colors. Class Valedictorian will be the student with the highest GPA after the first three quarters. After the grades have been calculated and the student selected, we will go over Class Speaker(s). We will also go over the options for Class Song.
Thanks to all those who came out in the rain to last week’s Fun Raiser at the Sonoma Chicken Coop! It is always nice to get together for food and fun.
This week is our “Open House Week” at school. If you know of anyone looking at different schools, encourage them to drop by.
Saturday, March 14th is our area WELS schools’ Choral Fest at St. Mark’s in Citrus Heights. Thank you to those who signed up to participate!

March 9-13 is our “Open House Week” at school. If you know of anyone looking at different schools, encourage them to drop by.
Saturday, March 14th some of our students will have the opportunity to share their voices with students from other WELS schools in the area at Choral Fest at St. Mark’s in Citrus Heights.

Welcome back! We hope your child enjoyed the week off from school. Starting this Wednesday we have the extra opportunity to worship our Savior King with our Lenten services. During these special Wednesday services, we focus our attention on how our Lord gives us free forgiveness through Jesus’ Passion. Lenten services are at 5:00 and 7:00, with a soup supper in between at 5:30.

The California Lutheran High School Exaltation Choir will be giving a special concert for the students on Thursday, March 5th during the school day.

With the return back to work, the kids return to school, and the recovery from all of the food eaten over the Christmas season – it is easy to say that Christmas is over on the 26th. Even though the department stores have packed up Christmas, we celebrate his birth all year long. Tomorrow we celebrate the “Gentile Christmas.” Epiphany is the observance of the Wise Men adoring the infant Jesus.

It is hard to believe that we are in December already! With December comes along Advent. Advent is a time to prepare our hearts for Christ’s coming. We prepare ourselves not only for his coming into this world in the manger, but also for when he comes again on that Last Day. We can open our hearts to him with great joy for the peace and healing that he brings.

This week the students will begin learning their songs and recitations for the school’s Christmas Program.
Last week we finished up looking at the issue of abortion in our topical Christ Light series and began studying euthanasia.
Grades 7 & 8 are competing against schools across the country in our synod’s “Meet Math.” Our synod’s worker training school, MLC, puts together 5 different math tests and tallies the scores of each of those tests. After the first test we are in 4th place in a division of 27 schools.
The students are learning the basics of basketball and began some competition in PE.

The students will begin to study what God says about different topics in their new Christ Light books. Topics include; homosexuality, abortion, euthanasia, war, and animal rights. Many in our society today make claims that we are eliminating basic rights when we speak against these things. Some try to paint those who speak against gay marriage, killing of unborn children, and of the elderly as intolerant. It is important to take a closer look as to what our Lord says in His Word.

For most of the country Friday will be a great time of fun and trick-or-treating for nation’s children. We can also look back and remember a man who shook the very foundations of the church to their core. Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses on October 31, 1517 and began what we call today, the Reformation. We can thank God that we have a church who bases their teachings on Scripture alone and on Christ alone, being saved by his grace alone.

How amazing is it that we have a God who blesses us so much! God not only provides us with what we need, but goes beyond that. This weekend’s theme was God’s “abundant” grace. He gives us that loving grace above and beyond anything that we can even imagine. We can truly thank God for his overflowing mercy.

This week the students will be finishing up looking at how we can get along better with people of other cultures. We will continue with how we can model Christ’s love with those who have different gifts than us.

The sixth grade has begun building their earthquake resistant models in science. (Your child would have also done this in sixth grade.) These building materials fit well with our devotional topic for today which discusses how God uses humans to build his church here on earth. Even though we are not perfect, when we are founded on Christ and his Word, his church will never fall, no matter how much the ground is shaking around us. What a great comfort this is to us.

The Harvest Festival is Friday, October 10th from 6:00-9:00 pm. A volunteer signup sheet went around last week for working the snack machines. Thank you to the students who are helping out.

God gives us a very clear command in 1 Thess. 5:16-18. He says to, “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” The Holy Spirit through Paul is telling us that we can have a true joy no matter what is happening in our lives, whether it’s the highest of highs, or the lowest of lows. We can thank God for the ultimate source of joy, his Son, our Savior.

Calendar Notes
Grades 3-8 will be testing this week with Terra Nova. There will be no math on Tuesday, no Spanish on Wednesday, and no history this week. Please try to avoid scheduling appointments during this week.
The WELS Volleyball mixer is Saturday, October 4th.

When times are difficult and things aren’t going the way we planned in our lives it is important to remember how our Lord empowers us to endure. We can look to the apostle Paul as an example of just how we can use those seemingly “less than ideal” conditions to further Christ’s kingdom. In prison and facing impending death, he prayed day and night and kept his mind focused on our Savior’s work. May God give us the strength each day to do the same.

Welcome back! Last week we finished up how to get along better with your family in Christ Light. This week students will begin to study how to get along better with their friends by comparing their friendships to some of those found in God’s Word and basing them on Jesus, their greatest friend.

Vision screening has been rescheduled for Thursday, September 25th.
Any Volleyball Mixer forms are due this Friday. There is a $4.00 fee.
School pictures are this Wednesday, September 17th. An order sheet went home last week. Please return the envelope attached to the bottom of this sheet on Wednesday, even if your child is not getting any picture package.
Grades 6-8 will sing “Open My Heart” in the early service this weekend, Sunday, September 21st.

Welcome to another week! This week the students will continue to take a closer look at how to better get along with their family in Christ Light. Students will be creating simple blueprints of their home and writing things they can do in each of the rooms to reflect God’s love in their lives.

Welcome back! It’s great to see everyone again. I hope that your child is excited for a new school year to begin. It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to teach your children. This year’s theme is that our students “Aspire, Learn, and Succeed, all to the glory of God.” Throughout the year we hope that all students strive to use their God given gifts and abilities to their fullest.

Calendar Notes
There is no school Monday, September 1st due to Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend.

Classroom Notes
If you have not done so already, make sure to send an earthquake kit with your child along with two Kleenex boxes or two bottles of Clorox wipes.
Students will receive a copy of the singing schedule for the school year. Please mark your calendars with the dates that your child will sing in church. It is also on the school website under calendars.
Milk Order forms will be sent home Monday. Please return the form, along with your payment by Thursday, August 28th. Milk service will begin Tuesday, September 2nd. Milk is included in your child’s hot lunch order. The milk order covers your student for the whole month, regardless of how many days they actually have milk.
Hot lunch menus can be reached at our school website under hot lunch menus. Hot lunch service will begin Tuesday, September 2nd. The service that we are using this year requires families to pre-order what their child will have on any certain day. If ordered before the deadline, lunches cost $4.75 each. The order deadline for the month of September is September 5th.
Girls interested in playing Volleyball this fall will have a meeting Thursday, August 28th, from 3:15-3:40 in the fourth grade classroom. A note about volleyball will be sent home Monday.
This year, all of Apostles’ athletics will be on one universal calendar. This calendar is located on our school website under athletic calendar. Coaches may also choose to send home schedules with just their team’s sport indicated.

Jer. 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
What a great reminder this verse is for us. We have a loving God who cares for each of us, enough that he has our lives planned out for our benefit. This is a great comfort also for our graduates and a good passage to keep in front of them as they head off to different schools. Even though friends might be gone, their Lord is with them, making sure they succeed.

Calendar Notes
Today, May 27th is PE Day at Cahalan Park. We will be leaving school and walking over to the park at 11:30. Students should plan on bringing a sack lunch to eat at the park along with water and sunscreen.
The Spring Piano Recital is May 30th at 7:00 pm.
There will be a yearbook signing party on Tuesday, June 3rd, from 3:15-4:30 in the fellowship hall. Cost is $3.00 for 2 slices of pizza and soda. If your child would like to attend, please send $3.00 in with your child by Friday.
We will dismiss at noon next Thursday, June 5th. Graduation is at 7:00 in the sanctuary. Please have your graduate here by 6:43. Thank you.

Good Stewards of God’s Grace
The last few church services have been focusing on being good stewards of the grace won for us on Calvary. We have been focusing on different locations of being good stewards. The students will be expressing that confidence in their salvation as they enter different locations and schools in their graduation song, “In Christ Alone.”

Calendar Events
This Wednesday the students will be going over to Cahalan Park to practice for the track meet. We will meet in the church at 8:35 to go over rules and procedures and then head over as soon as that is finished.
This Friday is a noon dismissal due to teacher collaboration. There will be no hot lunch. Homeroom services will still be available.
Thursday, May 1st is the Ascension Service at 7:00pm.
Friday, May 2nd is the middle of the 4th Quarter. Progress reports will be sent home at this time.

God Encourages and Builds Us in His Word
The students this week will be looking at how when our lives are founded firmly in God’s Word he blesses us richly and daily. Looking at how Jesus prepared his disciples for his work after his resurrection as our guide, the students will apply that to their own lives as young Christians. We too can take great comfort in knowing that the Lord has provided us with everything we need for our lives.

Katie and Rachel will be representing the 8th grade this Saturday at Gloria Dei in Belmont at the Spelling Bee.
There will be no school on Friday, April 18th for Career Day. Please fill out and return the form that went home earlier concerning your child’s plans.
Electronic waste will be collected this Saturday at church starting at 9:00am. If you have any old electronics that you would like to get rid of, bring them over.
The Practice Track Meet will be Wednesday, April 23rd at Cahalan Park. We will leave school around 9:00 and return around noon. Welcome back from Easter break! I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Easter and took comfort in the great Easter message of Christ’s resurrection.

Christ Lays Our Building Blocks
Our Christ Light lessons this week focus on how God helps us lay the foundations for our lives through the study of his great acts of love for us. After Good Friday and Easter it is easy to see the ground work laid and the cornerstone in place. We will also look at how our daily decisions can work with God’s plans.

Calendar Events
The 8th grade boys will be screened for scoliosis on Thursday. Information regarding this went home before break.
The Spelling Bee is Saturday, April, 12th in Belmont. Katie and Rachel will be representing the 8th grade.
Career Day is Friday, April 18th. A note is going home today describing Career Day. Mrs. Schneider went through with the students what to look for in choices for the day and what their essay should contain before break.
The Practice Track Meet at Cahalan Park is Wednesday, April 23rd.

God’s Love in Action
Yesterday, Palm Sunday began the Holy Week with shouts of praise and worship to our Savior and Lord. As Holy Week continued those same lips that had sung Christ’s praises now began to deny, mock, and condemn the same Jesus they had worshiped. How often we fall into the same sins. We can thank the Lord that Jesus not only died to cancel all those sins, but then rose on Easter, giving us the confidence of eternal life. What a truly blessed and exciting time this is for us.

Calendar Notes

Friday, March 21st, marks the end of the 3rd Quarter.
The students will be going to a children’s Good Friday service at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 21st.
There will be no school March 24th to March 28th.
Spelling Bee is Saturday, March 12th. Two students will be chosen to represent Apostles from each grade. We will finish our classroom spelling competition on Wednesday this week.
Career Day is April 18th.

Thanks to the students that helped out with Easter for Kids on Saturday.
Students decided to purchase a plaque engraved with all their names on it for winning Spirit Week. The plaque will cost more than the money allotted for purchasing the winning grade’s trophy. Each student should bring in $5.50 by Friday.
This week we will finish any graduation items. I will be sending a note home with each item that was decided later on this week. Class speaker will be decided after we return from Easter break in order to allow 3rd Quarter grades to be accounted for the Valedictorian.
