  • God’s Word Prepares Us
As we enter the season of Advent we look to make our hearts ready for Christ to enter. We also look to the skies for his coming again; ready to take all believers with him to heaven.

Our Christ Light lessons for this week focus on preparing our hearts for Christ by taking a closer look at the TV shows we watch. Students have kept track of the shows they watched and taken a closer look at what some of them contain. We will be comparing the content of these shows to the use of our free time that God would want for us.

Much To Be Thankful For
I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. We can truly be grateful for all that God has given us, especially in his ultimate sacrifice, his Son, Jesus. We finished our Christ Light book, “Who Am I?” by looking at how our lives are changed when we keep in mind the great gift of heaven that waits for us.

On Wednesday we will begin our new book, “How Can I Make God Pleasing Decisions?” We will begin by discussing the various shows that we watch on T.V. and in movies and how they relate to our lives as children of God.

  • This Saturday our church will be hosting the annual Christmas For Kids. If you know of any children ages 3-4, feel free to invite them.
  • Next Friday, Dec. 7th, we will dismiss at noon due to Teacher Collaboration Day. Homeroom will be available.

    God’s Word Makes Us Ready
Pastor Kronebusch began his message yesterday by asking us if we were ready for the business of Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up shortly. More importantly, we can be ready for Christ’s second coming through him and his Word. This week, we will begin looking at how the glorious future of heaven affects our everyday lives, from the good days to the bad days.

    Calendar Notes
  • This Wednesday we will dismiss at noon. There will be no school on Thursday or Friday. Homeroom services will be available on Wednesday until their normal time.

  • Topics for the Social Studies Fair are due by this Wednesday.
  • Thanks for all the support of the Book Fair! It turned out to be a huge success. Thanks especially for those families who purchased books for the classroom.
  • Thank you very much for meeting with me the past week. I really appreciate getting to talk with you face to face in order to make the most of your child’s learning. If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to let me know.
  • During collaboration last Friday, the faculty was able to go over the Accreditation team’s report. Overall, they were impressed with our school, making special note of a caring environment that our school promotes. Their report identifies areas where we are succeeding our goals and suggestions for school improvement. This team will give their report to the agency and we will find out our Accreditation status come February. We are doing this in order to receive a stamp of approval from an agency that knows education inside and out and to get an outside view of our school and the improvements that can be made.
  • A goal of the 6-8th grades is to better improve writing skills through organization. One part of this will be to have a writing assessment once a month on Collaboration Fridays. The first one was last Friday. The students will write a 3-5 paragraph essay based on a topic. The essays will be assessed and specific writing skills will then be covered and practiced.

God’s blessings on your Thanksgiving. We have much to be grateful for.

Welcome to the 2007-2008 School Year!

Hello and welcome back to a new and exciting school year.

This year there are a few changes around campus. Mr. Luehring will be facilitating the 7th and 8th grade Spanish class. Last year the 7th and 8th grades used the 5th and 6th grade curriculum as an introductory course. This year they will be using the corresponding curriculum and so it will be more in depth. We welcome Miss Tjernagel to our faculty and are excited to have her join our school family. We will begin a new Exploratory Class for the 8th graders. Students will choose their own approved project each quarter. The teacher will set benchmarks for each student to reach throughout that quarter.

This year's Hot Lunch program will be catered by Pasta Market and will need no ordering in advance other than putting money in your child's account. Create an account by depositing a recommended amount of $50 for your child. You can put money in your child’s account with a credit card by calling 408-720-1269 or by mailing a check (be sure to include student name & school in the memo section) to: Pasta Market P.O. Box 9339San Jose, CA 95157. Menus will be sent home today and are also available at http://www.apostlessj.org/web/hotlunch/index.html. They will also be hung in the classroom for the students to see.

Earthquake Kit informational sheets were not put into the Orientation folders. They will be sent home today with each student. Please fill out and put inside your child's ziplock bag, along with their Earthquake Kit. Also going home today is a finalized copy of the singing schedule for the year, piano informational letter, and information about the new Box Tops competition. If you have not done so already, please send along 2 tissue boxes with your child.

As we enter this busy time of the year, let us not forget to make time for our risen Lord and Savior.

In His service,
Mr. Eric Fillner
